Kwak Ninja H2 - Supercharger!

Blog Date - 19 September 2014

It's the modern marketing teaser, Kawasaki's latest video about the forthcoming "H2".

What is clear is that this bike will have a supercharger. I'm sure there's countless sports riders out there wetting themselves in antici...pation with rumours of 225bhp and the fastest production motorcycle title and the threat of a race bike with 300bhp! Yip, I can list a few acquaintances who'll be lining up outside the shops with credit cards at the ready. They'll be able to loose their licences even quicker now!

But why am I writing about this? Ren...the guy who's happiest on a 140mph 11bhp 125? 225bhp strikes me as pointless, silly and a total waste on UK roads (or any other public roads for that matter).

It's the supercharger. You see in the case of the H2 it is being used to make it faster so the bike will appeal to middle aged men with self confidence issues about their thinning hair but not enough cash to buy a Porsche. But the development of a supercharger can be used to increase efficiency. It's simply a question of changing timings, revolutions at certain engine speeds and amount of compression to target efficiency. Turbos used to be used for performance but modern diesels turbos are tuned for efficiency.

I doubt it will happen soon, I just can't help but smile at the notion of a tiny teeny supercharger fitted to the side of my CBF 125. Imagine that...maybe I could alter it for performance rather than efficiency and achieve, oh I don't know, maybe 70mph!

OH YEAH! Imagine that...140mph on a 125. I think it would self-dissemble!

I'm sure you worked out I meant 140 MPG...miles per gallon...DOH!

I have seen a C90 with a turbo fitted. The guy did it as an experiment but there's not enough airflow in the exhaust to really spin up the turbo properly

Hi Garth. I have been told that there are small turbos out there specifically for small capacity engines. Still...if you want to jump from 7bhp to maybe 10bhp it's probably easier to fit a 125cc engine rather than a turbo.

I guess that's not the point though. Fitting a turbo to a 90cc engine is like climbing Mount Everest, there's no need and no reason, you do it to challenge yourself and to see if it's possible. in which case...pass me a small turbo for the 125 will ya.
