The Art Of Doing Something That Is Nothing
Ride Date 20 Sep 2025
By Bogger
Day 5 Saturday
Were up at 8.15, today a ride is planned the town/city of Angouleme. This weekend in Angouleme is the ‘Circuit de Remparts’. Back in the thirties, forties and early fifties the old Ramparts road around the town of Angouleme was used as a Grand Prix circuit. In latter years this has been revived and old GP cars from the early days ‘parade’ around the old narrow 1.2km circuit. I say parade, I went a few years back and it’s the fastest parade I’ve ever seen. Lots of old Bugattis, Ferraris and the like were getting quite badly damaged as they ‘paraded’ around the twisting streets at a rate of knots. It’s a sight and sound to behold and really worth visiting and experiencing.
At 10.30am me and Pete make the short ride to Verteillac again for the proposed 11.00 am departure for Angouleme thirty miles to the North. Nobody was in any rush to go anywhere and they were slowly getting themselves ready.

Rob, who lives in the nearby village of La Tour Blanche had ridden his Rocket 3 bitsa to Verteillac. Only six miles away. It now steadfastly refused to turn over and start for the journey to Angouleme. Leads were checked, battery banks were offered up. It wasn’t having any of it. We're all sitting or standing around in our bike gear getting hotter and hotter by the second.
Some bright spark, I think it was Colin, decided that bump starting it might be a good idea. Hmm, what are they 2.3 ltr? You can probably guess the end result. No, it didn’t start and we nearly had to get the jump leads onto Colin. I had a think about the situation and decided to head back to Riberac. Not in huff or anything like that, but the hot day was wearing on, I was a bit knackered and I’d seen the spectacle of Circuit de Remparts before. I also knew how busy Angouleme would be. So back once again to Riberac.
In Riberac I just chilled out in the Café du Palais and had a few small beers. In the early evening I ordered a meal. Before I’d finished, Pete turns up and we spend the rest of the evening putting the world to rights sitting amongst the bars’ outside seating area.

It’s now late and we retire to the BnB at 11.00pm. It’s a hard life!

Feet Forward Prologue
Bogger is organising his next French escapade. It's the who, why, what, and where this time, oh and the how. The why never makes sense, nor should it.
Naughty Boys On Strange Bikes
It's a discouraging start to Bogger's Feet Forwards French expedition. Not to worry, soon the 2 old men are sneaking around like naughty school kids.
Queasy Crossing And Useless Till Roll
Rain, wayward boarding passes, useless navigation systems, and rough seas - it's just another day in the life of a Bogger. As ever there's food and booze in the life of a Bogger too.
Haulin' Ass
It's gonna be a long long long ride for Bogger and Pete today. Our brave heroic riders are up to the task and it all seems rather easy overall. Hopefully the digs at the end of the ride will allow their asses to rest comfortably.
Feet Forward, Food, And Friends
It's a much more relaxed day for Bogger and Pete. There's a handful of miles to ride, people to meet, food to eat, and of course the odd beer.
The Art Of Doing Something That Is Nothing
Bogger has many plans for the day, alas the temptation of food and beer is more alluring. It's a chill day but that's fine, I'm sure there's more chaos to come.

Triumphs.......pffffffftttttt.
Stew and beer sounds much more enjoyable than pushing half a tonne of over cc'd nonsense.
