Andy's Local Ride
Ride Date 21 Sep 2025
By Andy Gray
Day 9: Local Ride 43 miles. (Ren - The Ed - missing a day or 2 presumably recovering from man flu)
Serious thunder, lightening, and rain most of the night, from 23:00 until 08:30. Heavy rain at times and found some of my clothes on my camping chair in the room were wet as if the roof leaked. Odd as there weren’t any other drips. Forecast looks relatively dry for the rest of the day so after I’d had lunch and tidied up my stuff, I decided to go for a short ride.
Rode south stopping to get photos of the river to show the difference from yesterday. Cut across country on one of the tiny roads A-2613 that climbs into the hills past Lascuarre to Castigaleu. Here it joins the slightly wider HUV-9231 which is a great biking road.
After Luzas it was a few miles on the major N230 before hitting the minor C-1311 towards Tremp. This is the road that I was heading for as I remember riding it in the opposite direction last year. This climbs up the Coll de Montllobar with incredible views in all directions.
From the summit, I could see rain in the direction of Tremp so to avoid that I did a U turn. From Benabarre I took another minor road heading north and this one climbs the Puerto de Laguarres 1060m. Now the climb isn’t that spectacular but the descent through the pine forest has excellent views back towards where I’m staying.
Due to the rain some of the road surfaces were rather dodgy where gravel and large rocks had washed/fallen across
the road.

Yesterday there was hardly any water and I could watch the fishes.

Today there’s a lot of muddy water.

Not sure the water glistening on the mountain shows up too well.

Quiet roads on a Sunday.

Looks like rain down there, I’ll turn around!

A long Ride to Gien
Big miles already on Andy's first day on the road. He's just getting settled into the ride and making his way south through France.
Smiling In The Rain
It's a soggy wet day through France for Andy, but that won't dampen his spirits. He stumbles upon 2CVs and climbing walls, straight roads and twisties.
Into The Pyrenees
With improving weather Andy is still heading south. It's all terribly positive, even the diversions are opportunities to explore. The Pyrenees continue to impress.
An Easy Day Around The Pyrenees
Andy is taking it easy today. Just a casual bimble around The Pyrenees, across mountains and valleys, you know, the sort of easy ride we all do on a lazy day. Ever more delightful images too.
Stuck In The Cols - Painful!
Andy is enjoying all the mountain passes on the French side of The Pyrenees - until he's "Route Barre" from getting back to the campsite. He's got the sniffles too.
Poor Poorly Andy
The sun is shining, the air is warm, the surroundings are lovely. Andy is rather under the weather himself, it's not the best couple of days.
Andy's Local Ride
Feeling a little better Andy's having an easy day exploring The Pyrenees. Scenery aplenty while dodging some rain.
